Vertebral body of thoracic vertebra ...
Other Terms: Corpus vertebrae (vertebrale), Vertebral body, Corpus vertebrae, Corps vertébral
The body is a cube-like cylinder of bone having a heart shape appearance from above. Their depth and width are approximately equal and they increase in height from cranial to caudal. They are narrower centrally, widening toward the articular surfaces. The lateral aspects of the body bear noticeable articular facets for the ribs.
The term body or its Latin equivalent corpus refers to the large central portion of a structure. This portion of the vertebra is also called the centrum, Latin for center.
