Description

This is a small, round, smooth surface on the anterior apex of the transverse process. It is the articular surface for the tubercle of the rib having the same number as the vertebra.

Etymology

Costal comes from the Latin word costa meaning rib. Fovea is Latin meaning a small pit or depression from the verb fodere meaning to dig.
