The basilic vein is much larger than the cephalic vein. It passes proximally in front of the medial margin of the biceps to pierce the deep fascia at the junction of the distal and the intermediate thirds of the arm. It passes proximally along the medial side of the brachial artery to become the axillary vein at the lower border of the tendon of the teres major muscle.
