Description
The subclavian vein occupies a position below and anterior to the subclavian artery. It lies upon the first rib, in front of the anterior scalene muscle, and behind the clavicle. It is formed from the union of the cephalic vein and the axillary vein. It passes over the superior surface of the first rib, along the clavicle, and then into the thoracic cavity, where it drains into the brachiocephalic vein.
