Other Terms: Lateral sinus, Sinus transversus, Sinus transverse
The transverse sinus is the sinus through which the inferior petrosal sinuses communicate with each other. It passes across the basilar process of the occipital bone. It extends inferiorly as far as the anterior margin of the foramen magnum, where it communicates with the anterior spinal veins. The sixth pair of nerves passes through it.
