Interatrial septum (atrial septum)

The interatrial septum separates the left and right atria of the heart. Upon this, a little above the opening of the inferior vena cava, is an oval depression, called the fossa ovale, with a very thin floor. This marks the site of the foramen ovale of the fetal heart. The limbus of fossa ovalis is the surrounding ridge that is incomplete below.
