Description
The valve of the inferior vena cava is located in the intersection of the right atrium and the inferior vena cava. During fetal life, it helps to direct the flow of blood through the right atrium directly to the left atrium through the foramen ovale. While it is important during fetal development, it is either deficient in adult life or exists merely as a vestigial structure.
