Inferior articular facet of cervical ...

Description

The inferior articular process or facet projects from the inferior surface of the lamina near its junction with the transverse process. This process is more dorsal then its superior counterpart. Its articular surface faces inferomedially and receives the articular surface of the subjacent superior facet of the juxtaposed vertebra.

Etymology

Facet, literally means a little face. It came into English via the French diminutive facette that came from the Latin facies or face. Anatomically, the term describes smooth, flat surfaces.
