The lesser cornu is the small, horn-like projection from the junction of the greater cornu and body of the hyoid. This small projecting horn is joined to the body with fibrous tissue and forms a synovial joint with the greater cornu. Later in life this joint may ossify.
The term cornu is Latin meaning horn. The early anatomists used this term to describe horn-like projection.
