Head of malleus

Description

This is the superior rounded mallet-like portion of the bone. It is oval in form and attaches on its posteromedial aspect with the incus. The articular surface forms a superior and inferior aspect angled at almost ninety degrees to each other.

Etymology

The term head refers to a smooth, rounded articular surface. The Latin equivalent is caput.
