Description

The elongate, fissure-like gap between the lesser wing and greater wing. This fissure opens into the posterosuperior orbit, transmitting the ophthalmic, oculomotor, trochlear, and abducens nerves along with many small vessels.

Etymology

Fissure is from the Latin fissura meaning a cleft. Fissures are gaps in bones or gaps between neighboring bones.
