In English this muscle’s name is the short muscle that straightens the big toe. The word extensor comes from the Latin ex meaning “out from” and tendere meaning “to stretch.”The term hallucis is from the Latin hallux, which originally arose from the Greek halmos meaning “to leap or spring.” The big toe was so-named because of its functional role in leaping.Brevis is the Latin term meaning “short.” This is being used as a comparative reference to a longer muscle that does the same thing.
Origin
Dorsal surface of the calcaneus.
Insertion
Dorsal surface of the base of the proximal phalanx of the big toe.
Action
Assists with extension of the big toe.

Deep peroneal nerve (L5 and S1)
Blood supply
The perforating branch of the peroneal artery, anterior lateral malleolar artery, lateral tarsal arteries, dorsalis pedis artery, arcuate artery, first dorsal metatarsal artery, and dorsal digital arteries.
