Etymology
The English name for this muscle is the muscle before the shinbone. The word tibialis comes from the Latin word tibia meaning the “shinbone, or flute.” It was probably originally named for the shinbone and later took on the meaning of flute, because people made flutes from the tibiae of animal bones. The Latin term anterior is derived from the Latin ante meaning “before.”

Medial and inferior surfaces of the medial cuneiform and the base of the first metatarsal bone.
Action

Blood supply
The muscle belly receives branches from the anterior tibial artery and anterior tibial recurrent artery. From proximal to distal, the tendon receives branches from the anterior medial malleolar artery, dorsalis pedis artery, medial tarsal arteries, posterior tibial artery, and medial malleolar and calcaneal arteries.
