Etymology
The English name for this muscle is the short muscle on the flat of the hand. The word palmaris is from the Latin palma for “the flat of the hand.”Brevis is the Latin term meaning “short.” This is being used as a comparative reference to a longer muscle that does the same thing.
Origin
Flexor retinaculum and the medial aspect of palmar aponeurosis.
Insertion
Dermis on the ulnar side of the hand.
Action
Helps with gripping by elevating the hypothenar aspect of the hand and wrinkles the skin over this region.
Nerve supply
Ulnar nerve (C8 and T1)
Blood supply
The muscle is supplied by small branches from the ulnar side of the superficial palmar arch.
