Nasal spine

Description

This is a thin midline plate of bone that projects from the anterior nasal portion to form a sharp inferior apex or spine. The spine articulates with the anterior border of the perpendicular plate of the ethmoid and with the crest of the nasal bones. It contributes to a small upper portion of the nasal septum.

Etymology

This term comes from the Latin nasus that arises from the Sanskrit term nasa, both meaning nose. Spine comes from the Latin spina meaning a thorn.
