Etymology
The English name for this muscle is the muscle that presses the urine maker together. The word compressor arises from the Latin con meaning “together” and pressare meaning “to press.”The word urethrae arises from the Greek ourethra meaning “to make urine.” This comes from the Greek ouron meaning “urine.” This is an ancient term that is traceable back to the time of Hippocrates.
Origin
Medial surface of ischiopubic ramus.
Insertion
Joins with its opposite muscle to form a flat band-like tendinous raphe that passes anterior to urethra.
Action
Elongate and compress urethra and vagina.
Nerve supply
Perineal branches of the pudendal nerve (S2, S3, and S4)
Blood supply
Internal pudendal artery from the internal iliac artery.
