Origin
Sphenoid bone superior and medial to the optic canal
Insertion
Passes through a trochlear loop to the superolateral surface of the sclera in the posterior half
Action
Depresses, abducts, and intorts the eye.

Blood supply
Muscular branches of the ophthalmic artery via the internal carotid artery.
