Etymology
The English name for this muscle is the inferior straight muscle (of the eye). The word rectus is Latin for “straight.”The Latin word inferior comes out of inferus meaning “low or lower.”
Origin
Inferior part of the common tendinous ring that surrounds the optic canal
Insertion
Inferior surface of the anterior part of the sclera
Action
Depresses, adducts, and extorts the eye.

Oculomotor nerve (Cranial nerve III)
Blood supply
Muscular branches of the ophthalmic artery via the internal carotid artery.
