Etymology
The English for this muscle name is the muscle that presses the partition down. Depressor comes from the Latin de meaning “down” and premiere meaning “to press.”The word supercilii comes from the Latin superus meaning “over or above” and cilium, which means a hairlike structure or eyelash. This probably goes back to the Greek killo meaning a “trembling or winking,” because of the rapid movements of the eyelashes.
