Costal cartilage 10
Other Terms: Costal cartilage of rib, Cartilago costalis, Cartilage costal
The tenth costal cartilage is shorter and narrower than its predecessor. It ascends obliquely upward from the tenth rib and narrows to a pointed projection anteriorly, which attaches to the inferior margin of the ninth rib via a fibrous joint. In some individuals the tenth costal cartilage can be free and floating like the ribs eleven and twelve. The transversus abdominis muscle attaches to its anterior surface.
