The eighth costal cartilage is shorter and narrower than its predecessor. It ascends obliquely upward from the eighth rib and narrows to a pointed projection anteriorly, which attaches to the inferior margin of the seventh rib. The transversus abdominis muscle attaches to its anterior surface.
