Digital (foot) joints and ligaments
Other Terms: Ligaments of the digits (foot)
These are the small, mobile joints that occur between the distal ends of the metatarsal bones and the proximal end of the proximal phalanges (metatarsophalangeal joints) and between adjacent phalanges (interphalangeal joints).
Intermetatarsal joints and ligaments – plane joints syndesmotic ligaments Metatarsophalangeal joints – ellipsoid joints Interphalangeal joints – hinge joints
Adjoining surfaces of the bones – metatarsal to phalangeal and phalangeal to phalangeal.
Numerous strong ligaments support and limit the movements of the bones in these joints.
