Description
This is a broad, flat band that is basically a localized thickening of the medial aspect of the fibrous joint capsule, which attaches it to the peripheral margin of the medial meniscus. However, the anterior part of the ligament and adjoining fibrous capsule are often separated from the meniscus by a small bursa. It attaches to the medial epicondyle of the femur proximally and descends distally and anteriorly to attach to the medial condyle and shaft of the tibia.
Function
Stabilizes the medial side of the knee joint, where it prevents lateral flexion of the joint.
