Description
A strong, fibrous sheet that connects the interosseous margin of the tibia the interosseous margin of the fibula, filling the gap between the two bones except at the proximal and distal ends where there exist openings in the membrane that allow for the passage of vessels. The fibers of this ligamentous sheet predominantly course obliquely from the tibia proximally to the fibula more distally.
Function
Stabilizes the tibiofibular junction and provide attachment for many of the crural muscles.
