Description
This is a large, strong syndesmotic junction between the sacrum and ilium. It connects the two bones posterior and inferior to the sacroiliac joint between ill-fitting rough surfaces posterior to the cartilage covered auricular surfaces on both the sacrum and the ilium. It consists of deep and superficial bands that cross between the bones in a variety of orientations to strongly bind the adjacent surfaces.
Function
Probably the strongest sacroiliac junction. Stabilizes the sacroiliac joint and limits movement.
