Description
These are the small, mobile joints that occur between the distal ends of the metacarpal bones and the proximal end of the proximal phalanges (metacarpophalangeal joints) and between adjacent phalanges (interphalangeal joints).

Intermetacarpal joints and ligaments – plane joints syndesmotic ligaments
Metacarpophalangeal joints – ellipsoid joints
Interphalangeal joints – hinge joints
Articular surfaces
Adjoining surfaces of the bones – metacarpal to phalangeal and phalangeal to phalangeal.
