Description
Thin fan-shaped ligaments that radiate from a narrow attachment from both anterior and posterior surfaces of the costal cartilage of ribs one to seven to a broad attachment on the respective surfaces of the sternum. On the sternal surface, they blend and overlap with counterparts from above and below, as well as from the opposite side. The tendinous origin of the pectoralis major also interdigitates with these ligaments.
Function
Stabilize the attachment of the ribs to the sternum and limit rib movements.
