This is a thin ligamentous sheet that attaches to the crest of the costal neck superiorly and ascends in an oblique course laterally to attach to the inferior border of the transverse process above the rib. It blends with the internal intercostal membrane laterally. It is not present on the first rib.

This is a thin fibrous membrane that attaches to the superior margin of the costal neck and ascends vertically to attach to the transverse process of the vertebra superior to the rib. This fibrous sheet blends with the external intercostal muscle laterally. It is not present on the first rib.
