As the name suggests, this ligament radiates like a fan from the head of the rib to the lateral surface of the bodies of the two vertebrae that articulate with the rib. It is in the form of a thin ligamentous sheet that covers the anterior surface of the costovertebral joint capsule.
Stabilizes the costovertebral joints and limits movements of the rib.
