Description
A flat, thin band of collagenous tissue that widens as it descends. It attaches to the spine of the sphenoid bone and the lingula of the mandible, where it covers the mandibular foramen medially.
Function
It helps limit depression of the mandible and prevent dislocation when opening the mouth.
