Lateral temporomandibular ligament
Other Terms: Lateral temporomandibular ligament, Ligamentum laterale (Articulatio temporomandibularis), Ligamentum laterale articulationis temporomandibularis
A short, narrow band that is often divided into two, one in front of the other. It passes from the lateral surface of the zygomatic arch and its tubercle to the lateral posterior border of the neck of the mandible.
Stabilizes the lateral side of the temporomandibular joint and helps prevent the mandible from dislocating when it is opened.
