Neck of the fibula

Description

This is the narrowed region just below the head. Crossing the lateral surface of the neck is the common fibular (peroneal) nerve that is palpable at this point. With your fingers roll this nerve against the fibular neck and send a tingling sensation into your leg and foot.

Etymology

The term neck refers to a narrow region of bone that supports a larger bony projection. The Latin term for neck is collum.
