Olecranon

Description

This forms the knob-like projection at the proximodorsal end of the bone. Elbow is the lay term for this process. It provides attachment to the aponeurotic tendon of the triceps brachii muscle.

Etymology

Olecranon comes from the Greek olena meaning forearm and kranos for helmet because of its likeness to a helmet sitting on the end of the ulna or forearm.
