Acromion

Description

This is the flattened plate of bone that projects anterolaterally from the spine of the scapula as the peak of the shoulder. This subcutaneous projection is easily palpated. It serves as a muscle attachment site for the deltoid and trapezius muscles.

Etymology

Acromion is derived from the Greek akron meaning peak and omos for shoulder.
