Description

The neck is the portion of bone that tapers proximally from the wider head. It ends distally as the prominent tubercle. The neck is usually slightly rough and perforated by many small foramina. Various ligaments anchor from this portion of the rib to the adjacent vertebrae and ribs.

The term neck refers to a narrow region of bone that supports a larger bony projection. The Latin term for neck is collum.
