Greater alar cartilage
Other Terms: Cartilago alaris major, Greater alar cartilage, Grand cartilage alaire, Alar hauptsächlichknorpel
This is a very thin, pliable hyaline cartilage structure positioned inferior to the lateral nasal cartilage. Laterally, the greater alar cartilage is a flat plate positioned inferior to the lateral nasal cartilage. At its antero-inferior aspect it curves medially around the naris to form a medial crus, which projects posteriorly. The medial crus joins with its opposite counterpart and the septal cartilage to form the mobile inferior aspect of the septum.
